Chianti Classico 2017 – unexpected acidity

My immersion last month in the just-released 2017 Chianti Classico in Florence revealed something that I would have never associated with the hottest year on record: plentiful acidity. What equally surprised me was the relatively modest alcohol levels on those wines already bottled (quite a few were cask samples). Many labels indicated 13.5%, the norm having been 14.5% recently. These two factors seemed to turn wine wisdom, at least as I know it, on its head.
