After Gredos comes DOP Cebreros

Vines outside Burgohondo

A celebration of a recently formalised wine region where the average age of (mainly Garnacha) vines is 80. Above, a typical vineyard outside the village of Burgohondo.

The recent Cebreros denomination (DOP) represents one of the last great revolutions in Spain for top-quality wines. Its history, in a way, reminds me of that of Priorat because both were wine regions that not long ago were on the brink of disappearing but which have been revived in recent decades to present us with great, unique wines.

Because of this, you may never have heard of Cebreros, but keen visitors to JancisRobinson.com...
