Indie writing competition – a guide

• 2 min read

18 Sep We have just one more account to publish tomorrow morning, when we will announce our winning writer and our winning retailer. Cue drumroll.

16 Aug Our call to support independent wine merchants has had a hugely enthusiastic response. Right up to the deadline at midnight last night, we have been inundated by accounts of favourite indie retailers written by their customers. Clearly our readers care very much indeed about where and from whom they buy their wine.

This guide gives you a full list of all the reviews we have published so far, with the most recently published at the top. Although we are no longer accepting entries to our competition, we will continue to publish wine merchant reviews well into September, when we will announce the winners.  Don't forget that this is a writing competition and the winner of what we judge to be the best account of a favourite independent wine retailer will win an individually dedicated copy of Wine Grapes.  The wine retailer we judge to be the best in the world according to the entries received (which may in the end have no direct connection with the best-written entry) will be offered two tickets to our forthcoming London tasting of 2010 Barolos on the night of Sunday 23 November, together with a fortifying lunch beforehand at The Quality Chop House.

The list below makes a good global wine-buying guide – although see also our directory of 750 wine retailers around the globe in Where to buy, just part of our 150,000-word free Learn section.
