Wine drinkers, and particularly winemakers, in Australia are being urged to drink local. Highly respected producer Stephen Pannell of S C Pannell (pictured) has written an open letter, published on the website www.allforonewine.com.au, urging anyone who cares about the future of Australian wine to pledge themselves to abstain from drinking imported wines between the beginning of 2011 and Australia Day on Jan 26 – that's almost four weeks devoted entirely to the produce of Australia's own vineyards. (Total abstinence is very far from the point.)
