Luis Pato is one of the most innovative and impish Portuguese producers, even if he
is far from one of the youngest. Indeed, he is old enough to have a daughter, Filipa Pato, who is a well-established wine producer in her own right.
For long he was the champion of Bairrada, but eventually, disillusioned with a change in the rules that suggested a diminution in confidence in the purity of all-Baga reds and all-Bical whites, he announced that his wines would be sold as Vinho Regional Beiras instead of as Bairrada.
