Tripping over over-indulgence


This is a longer version of an article also published in the Financial Times.

We may have participated in the very worthwhile Room to Read dinner in the New York Public Library last October but my other night in the city was taken up with one of the most over-the-top wine dinners I have ever participated in – perhaps the most sybaritic ever. It consisted of one great wine after another and was called Cellar Legends.

Participants were a handful of American Express's very best customers and the hosts were me and Sergio Esposito (pictured with his book Passion on...
