Cru Bourgeois Night in pictures

Richard supplies us with his last photo report of one of our tasting events before taking off to Singapore next month. See also this thread in our Members' forum with comments about Cru Bourgeois Night.

Last Sunday 23 June, our series of tasting events made its first foray into Bordeaux, with a selection of cru bourgeois châteaux. Participating producers sent us one recent vintage and an older one for comparison purposes. New recruit Tim Jackson MW can be seen below double-decanting some of the older bottles to remove any sediment and allow some aeration. Jancis is protecting her appropriately coloured frock with a pinny. Julia tastes alongside.

Jancis and Julia tasted through the wines, using some rather superior wine glasses, as pictured above and below.

Once the wines were all tasted and prepared, they were lined up in Caravan's airy King's Cross restaurant space.

Those glasses again, 100 in total.

As ever, our guests ranged in gender and age, but all share an enthusiastic and considerate approach to tasting wine.

Many thanks to all at Caravan for their wonderful food and brilliant staff, Sensible Wine Services for the logistics, Brinda Bourhis of Winevox and Louis Hill of Phillips Hill, who liaised with the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois in France, and of course the producers for sharing their wine with us.

Any surplus generated by ticket sales for our Cru Bourgeois Night will be donated to a King's Cross charity for homeless young people chosen by the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois, New Horizon Youth Centre.
