Fifty was never a magic number nor a random one. It represented the top approximately 10% of the entries in the first 50 Great Greek Wines competition that took place on Santorini in 2020, the brainchild of Yiannis Karakasis MW and Grigoris Michailos AIWS.
With more entries in each subsequent competition (it’s been held every 18 months since then), 65 top-scoring wines were selected in May this year for the Great Greek Wines list, roughly 10% of the 660 entries...
