Zerbina – the tasting notes

All the wines made at the outstanding Romagna estate Fattoria Zerbina described here seem to have lingering, elegant fruit flavours, while starting off quite big and rich. Tannins are an integral part of the wines, and a very prominent feature, but always contrasted by an ongoing fruit sensation. While tasting, I realised that comparing Sangiovese di Romagna to Tuscan Sangiovese doesn't really help in an understanding of the wines. They have a distinct character, with bolder tannins, richer fruit, at generally higher alcohol levels. Zerbina wines seem to need much more age, and seem to fade much slower than some...
