The Schlossberg, arguably the most famous grand cru of Alsace as well as its oldest, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, providing a good excuse to take a look at what makes this vineyard special, and to see what may have changed in the last half-century.

The name Schlossberg literally means mountain of the castle – a fitting name as the Château du Kaysersberg guards the vineyard with a watchful eye.
