Paşaeli, Blush Çalkarası 2021 Aegean

16

Full bottle 1,286 g. Çalkarası is an indigenous variety that originates from Çal district of Denizli. The vineyard is at an elevation of 850 m. Harvested at the end of August. Whole-cluster pressing. The juice was removed from the skins after half an hour to produce a pale salmon colour. Then it was fermented at 18 °C for 20 days in a stainless-steel tank. It was aged on its lees for 3 months with lees-stirring twice a week.
Very pale in the style of Provence pink, not as you might expect from a wine with the word 'blush' in the name. Pretty red fruits with a touch of pear drops. Dry, crisp and super-refreshing with plenty of fruit sweetness for those who don't like their rosé too austere. Straightforward with a nicely dry finish. (JH)
