An effervescent wine inspired by Lambrusco and made from the cold-hardy hybrid Verona, bred by Tom Plocher and available for growing since 2015.
Aromas of white birch bark and dried leaves transform into flavours of cranberry and blackberry crushed onto smoked brisket. The acidity here is fresh and well balanced with the flavours. This wine is savoury, intriguing and would be a very good picnic or barbecue option. Serve chilled. An interesting combination of flavours from this variety – I will be curious to see how it continues to develop in still reds as well. (ECB)
