Wagner-Stempel, Siefersheimer Heerkretz Riesling Grosses Gewächs 2020 Rheinhessen

18.5 +

Grown in the oldest parcels of the terraced Heerkretz in stony red clay and sandy gravel with shell limestone sediments. Raised in stainless-steel tank and traditional large and medium-sized barrels of German oak.
The high (upwards of 250 m), cool and exposed slopes of the renowned Heerkretz site can be sensed from the opening notes of this incredibly complex Riesling. Smoke, stone, peach and pineapple, jasmine accents, minty whispers, and the longer it stays in the glass the more refined and radiant it becomes. Yet less aromatic than the Höllberg, Heerkretz is a wine to be experienced more than tasted. The taut, structured palate nearly crunches in its depths of stone and salt. Searing acidity. Grippy texture. Unfathomable depths. All the ingredients for greatness are there. The mis en place is set; now let the cooking begin. (PS)
