As I have pointed out ad nauseam already, the northern Médoc really benefited from being much drier than the south. I know how difficult life is for the small-scale wine farmers up here since they cannot command anything like the prices of the classed growths for their wines, and yet their production costs are not so very much lower. Or rather, they are caught in a vicious spiral whereby they cannot afford to make their wine luxuriously because their prices are not at a de luxe level...
