The Langhe, the region encompassing Roero, Barbaresco and Barolo, may be considered pur sang red-wine country due to Nebbiolo’s prominence, but in actual fact white wine comes a very close second. The total surface of Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero, some 2,766 ha in total, is dwarfed by Moscato d’Asti’s 4,283 ha, while the second most important white player in the field, Arneis, has more hectares devoted to it (694 ha) than Barbaresco (685 ha).
