Sonoma County asserts itself

Following in the footsteps of Napa Valley, Paso Robles and Lodi, Sonoma County secured California state legislative approval for a law that would require that the words 'Sonoma County' appear on the labels of all wines produced from grapes grown in the sub-appellations within Sonoma County. All that is left for this 'conjunctive labelling' bill to become law is the signature of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Sponsored by Sonoma County Vintners and the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission, the bill (AB 1798) requires that any wine labelled with an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located entirely within Sonoma County, such as Alexander Valley...
