Monthly Wine Tasting at The Winery
Monday 14 May 2018
,
You are invited to our next tasting on Monday 14thMay from 17.00-21.00h at our shop in Clifton Road W9.
We have two mini themes for Monday night’s tasting – fleshed out by last week’s arrivals: Gerrit Walter’s “other wines” and Mauvan’s “other wines”.
Gerrit Walter worked as an intern at The Winery for a few months back in 2009, while he was studying at Geisenheim, Germany’s top Wine Uni. His basic Riesling trocken has been our top selling dry Riesling ever since: our “gateway” dry Riesling. It has recently won another award in the UK German Top of the Crops competition. Rather than show a wine many of you already know, we thought we’d show two of Gerrit’s “other wines” – his sumptuous sparkling Riesling Sekt and his silky Spatburgunder, aka Pinot Noir– still something of a rarity in the Mosel valley.

It is with some relief that our shipment of Provencal Rose arrived last week from Gaelle Maclou’s Domaine de Mauvan from Mont Sainte-Victoire, the distinctive mountain oft painted by Paul Cezanne. Rather than show a wine many of you already know…. (you may suspect where this is going).
Gaelle’s “other wines” are her Cotes de Provence Blanc (100% Rolle aka Vermentino) and Rouge (100% Cabernet Sauvignon aka delicious).

We are just back from Germany and picked up some more dry, slatey, organic, Mosel Rieslings by Harald Steffens-Kess. We’ll have his Goldlay Riesling trocken 2016 in the line-up.

We are also delighted to announce the arrival of our shipment of Sancerre from Isabelle and Didier Raimbault (in Monday’s line-up)

and Rioja from Isabel Fernandez’s Longrande and Roberto Pangua, whose Sodupe Crianza will also feature in Monday’s tasting.
Special mention, although not in the tasting, must go to an amazing Gin we brought back from Germany distilled in small batches single-handedly by Franz von Stauffenberg.
We do hope you can join us and, as usual, feel free to bring a friend.
Our following tasting is scheduled for Monday 11thJune.
