This collection of nearly 90 wines from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil (in that order) includes many wines that are far more interesting than the standard mass-market examples. They demonstrate just how ambitious some South American wine producers are, so determined to explore new regions, new techniques and, sometimes, new varieties. There's an admirable restlessness as there are relatively few laurels to loll about on. I'd also like to draw particular attention to the exceptional bargain from Uruguay.
