This highly regarded estate is so far south in the Chianti Classico zone, near Castelnuovo Berardenga, that its wines have some of the power of a Brunello di Montalcino. The Vigneto Rancia is a six-hectare, south-facing vineyard of Sangiovese at 400m altitude and this bottling is one of the more forceful statements of Chianti Classico.
Fontalloro is also all-Sangiovese matured in barrique but spends longer in wood, up to 20 months, and is selected from four different vineyards around Siena in the Colli Senesi zone.
