Aglianico del Vulture, made from the Aglianico grape, is this small, deep southern region's claim to wine fame. Its depth of colour and impressive tannin level certainly distinguish it in youth although it needs many years in bottle to show its best. Leading producer D'Angelo, in their special Canneto bottling, shows some real mastery of local conditions on the slopes of an extinct volcano.
