The Hilt, Bentrock Vineyard Pinot Noir 2019 Sta Rita Hills

16

At over 500 feet (150 meters) above sea level, Bentrock is comprised of long, rolling hills. Though the elevation is high, the ridges are not steep. Vines flow gently down the hillsides, receiving ample sunlight yet ripening slowly because of elevation and moderate cooling breezes. Bentrock vineyard is nearly 92 acres (37 ha), most planted with Pinot Noir and the remainder with Chardonnay. Ageing: 80% neutral French oak barrels, 20% stainless-steel barrels for 12 months.
Smooth, elegant Pinot. Crisp acidity. Ripe fruit is subtle and very much in check. Certainly not a wine that ‘shouts’, this is reserved and focused. Very fine tannins on the palate. Oak influence is purely textural, rather than contributing any flavour. Intriguing, not at all showy. (AWH)
