North American Press, The Rebel Baco Noir 2020 Sonoma Coast

17

Planted in the 1960s in the far Sonoma Coast in an area now surrounded by Pinot Noir vineyards. Baco Noir is a French–American hybrid created in the 1800s from a cross of Folle Blanche and Vitis riparia. A portion of the proceeds of this wine go to support the Laguna Foundation in its effort to restore and conserve wetlands. The vineyard is farmed without sprays or use of any chemical interventions.
This wine drinks with the earthiness of Pinot Noir, the mid-palate focus of Barbera and the friendliness of Blaufränkisch but with a bit more innate spice and a fuller wash of mouth-watering acidity. There is a lot of length here in a wine that will do very well alongside barbecue or grilled meats, pastas or pizzas. It’s an ideal food wine and carries a pleasing sense of purity. (ECB)
