Julia Harding, Sam Cole-Johnson and Arnica Rowan make the shortlist for the 'Pulitzers of wine'.

We are thrilled to announce that two of our staff and a long-time contributor have been shortlisted for the 67 Pall Mall Global Wine Communicator Awards, announced yesterday.

Julia Harding MW, who is celebrating her 20th year as a key member of our team at JancisRobinson.com, has been nominated for the Gusbourne Award for Best Global Communicator in Long-Form Writing for her in-depth report from the Azorean isle of Pico, The resurgence of Pico’s fabulous wines.

Long-time contributing author Arnica Rowan is shortlisted in the same category, for her compelling investigation into the role of Horses in the vineyard and the responsibility that comes with employing them.

And Sam Cole-Johnson, creator of the ever-popular Wine News in 5 (broadcast weekly on Instagram and YouTube, as a podcast and available to read on our site), in addition to being one of our trusted team reviewing wines and writing articles, has been shortlisted for the second year in a row for the Berkmann Award for Best All-Round Wine Communicator.

These awards, now in their second year, are the equivalent of the Pulitzers for the wine world. The judging is rigorous – out of a field of 577 entries only 25 were shortlisted, by an international panel chaired by Elaine Chukan Brown and including Agnese Gintere, Sonal Holland MW, Andrew Jefford, Anna Lee Iijima and Tyson Stelzer. As Stelzer remarked, ‘In two decades of judging, this has been one of the most rigorously judged competitions with which I have ever been involved. Every entry was scrutinised by multiple judges and offered several opportunities to be pushed forward or knocked back. The entries were extensive, the competition was fierce, and all finalists and winners should be mighty proud of their achievements.’

We certainly are proud of them.

The full list of finalists and the work that landed them the honour is available here.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on 5 September.
