Julia was conflicted about whether to travel to attend this year's tasting of fine Austrian single-vineyard wines but afterwards was very glad she did. She took this picture of the view from the ruined castle of Senftenberg, looking across the Pellingen vineyard to the town.

My first escape since February from the island that is the United Kingdom took me to a high-level tasting of more than 200 Austrian wines, mostly from the newly released 2019 vintage. Not all of them white. As in Germany, 2019 was a very good vintage, even if the wines are real babies right now.
