Can English wine be organic?

As I’ve already mentioned in Davenport the quiet hero, there are 700 vineyards in the UK, with a total of about 2,500 ha (6,200 acres) under vine. Of this, according to United Kingdom Vineyards Association, 18 vineyards are certified with either the Soil Association, Organic Farmers and Growers or Demeter (biodynamic). 

However, with a bit of digging, I found that a few of these have either lost their certification or gone out of business. I tracked down just 12 vineyards with some sort of certification. Between them, they boast barely 62 ha (154 acres) of vines. Lagging significantly...
