Divas uncorked by Hess

Wednesday 2 February 2005 • 1 min read

Divas Uncorked is a Boston-based group of women with an interest in wine who style themselves 'Sisters who Sip'. Check them and their inspiring bios out at www.divasuncorked.com Since I have been blabbing on in purple pages about wimmin in wine, I thought I should publicise their latest ventures.

Divas Uncorked Inc and The Hess Collection Winery  of the Napa Valley have just announced the first fruits of their collaboration as part of the Divas Uncorked Collaborative Consortium: a scholarship for a woman or a person of color to enroll in the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Resource Center for advanced wine studies in Boston.

Diva Paula Wright of Sudbury, Mass participated in the important Unified Wine & Grape Symposium on 25 jan. She was on a panel addressing “Ethnic Marketing: Tapping Fast Growing Brand Loyal Consumer Groups.”  Growing in size and power, yet virtually ignored by wine marketers, the ethnic markets may prove to be among the most fertile grounds for brand growth. Like Baby Boomers, many of these consumer groups are exceptionally brand loyal, she argued. Panelists provided viewpoints on the important exploration of emerging wine markets and Paula specialised in how producers or groups can better communicate to African Americans. The Unified Symposium is the largest gathering of the American/California wine industry and attracts a combination of small and large growers and winemakers, as well as trade associations, and industry media.

The Divas Uncorked “Wine, Women and...Flights of Fancy” conference for women takes place this Saturday 5 February at Boston's Sheraton Hotel from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. It will be followed by a wine dinner open to all at 6:30 pm at Westin Copley Place with keynote speaker Spencer Christian, ABC weatherman and wine aficionado.
