Spring frost strikes Bordeaux – again

Wind machines and candles once again brought into action in the vineyards of Bordeaux. In Pessac-Léognan, Ch Haut-Bailly's technical director Gabriel Vialard captured this image last week.

In a repeat of early April 2021, vineyards around France have again been hit by frost. In Bordeaux, on consecutive days, 3 and 4 April, temperatures fell below freezing in the early hours of the morning, dropping to -2 °C to -5 °C with extremes of -7 °C (19 °F) even mentioned. Monday 4 April, in particular, recorded the lowest temperatures seen at this time of the year since 1947.
