Virginia wine – worth a road trip

Spring is the perfect time to check out this thriving East Coast wine region, according to Virginia native Sedale McCall, one of the finalists in our 2023 Wine Writing Competition.

Virginia has become one of the most popular regions for winegrowing in the United States, with more than 350 wineries spread among eight AVAs. I have been fortunate to have witnessed this growth first hand, as I’ve lived here all my life. However, as most wines are sold within the state, exploring Virginia’s wine scene really requires a trip.
