As usual I was sent the annual Virginia Governor's Cup Case, a dozen of the top-scoring wines in the 2015 Governor's Cup Wine Competition. This year, apparently, 390 wines were entered, all of them comprising 100% Virginia fruit, a requirement that still needs to be spelt out in this state, no matter how wine-minded it...

We were shocked by Wednesday's news that two Virginia journalists were fatally shot as they broadcast live on breakfast television. There is no connection with this article other than location, but senseless, vindictive loss of life in a supposedly civilised society seems to demand comment.
