Image

See this guide to our extensive coverage of Burgundy 2015. Our picture shows an autumnal scene on the Côte de Beaune.

Now that the wines have been sorted into groups by producer, you can sort the wines within those groups by score or appellation.

DOMAINE BERTRAND BACHELET
Great prices.

White

Scented and lively. Proper stuff that's accessible but has a future and is not overpriced. GV (JR)

Drink: 2018 – 2024
Price: £255 per case of 12 ib Stannary St Wine Co
Red

Racy and sleek, with real savour. Perhaps the best Maranges I have tasted. Lovely vegy note. Complete. (JR)

Drink: 2021 – 2030
Price: £175 per case of 12 ib Stannary St Wine Co
Red

Scented and fully ripe. Pretty and perfumed, with texture. (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2028
Price: £175 per case of 12 ib Stannary St Wine Co

DOMAINE DENIS BACHELET
Very fine, polished wines. A particularly lovely Charmes Chambertin, as chez Roumier. Denis' son Nicolas is well in harness. No whole bunch.

Red

Malolactic fermentation ended in August and he racked in September so it had not (at the time of tasting) yet had the four months needed to blossom. Blend of casks from Gevrey.
Very expressively floral nose with fine tannins and medium weight underneath. Definitely not Gevrey! Quite a bit of acidity. (JR)

Drink: 2019 – 2023
Red

From quite high up the slope above Brochon. Racked in June.
Perfumed. Racy and fine. Very charming. Good transparency and neatness. Quite long. (JR)

Drink: 2019 – 2024
Red

80-year-old vines on a total of 1.5 ha. 'We look after them with love and passion.' They replant 1% a year. ‘Repiquage.’
Lots there! Fine and rewarding even if not that dense. Not a fruit bomb but very digestible. (JR)

Drink: 2023 – 2032
Red

From the mid slope and very thin soils on rock. Just three barrels and this is a blend of them all.
Not especially deep crimson. Very fine perfume with lots of sweetness but also very pure stoniness, with a hint of cassis actually. Please all. Pure and unforced. (JR)

Drink: 2025 – 2042
Red

Vines mainly planted in the 1920s. Cool, clay spot next to Mazis and Chambertin so usually a bit closed.
Very fresh and accessible. Very readable and charming. The friendly side of Gevrey! Nicely energetic. Very long. (JR)

Drink: 2025 – 2045
Red

They normally make eight barrels, but they only made six in 2015 (and 2016). 50% new oak. Very small bunches.
Great attractive meatiness on the nose. Very sweet and gorgeous. Really quite fine. Really great wine with no excess. Has a beginning, middle and end, and although it should age beautifully, the fruit is so articulate it almost disguises the very ripe tannins and persuades you to drink it straight away. (JR)

Drink: 2030 – 2050

DOMAINE JEAN-CLAUDE BACHELET

White

Broad and smoky. Fine and dry with lots of texture. Very confident stuff. Very clean and correct without being that dramatic. (JR)

Drink: 2019 – 2027
Price: £210 per case of 12 ib Berry Bros & Rudd
White

Smoky and polished. Lots of drive and focus. Well done – approachable but with a future. Lightly bitter end. (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2028
Price: £TBC per case of 12 ib Berry Bros & Rudd
White

Grainy, savoury, lots of steel and future here. Great drive and energy. Lots to chew on. But no shortage of fruit. Bravo! (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2029
Price: £228 per case of 6 ib Berry Bros & Rudd

DOMAINE BACHELET-MONNOT

White

Subtle aroma but intense citrus fruit on the palate. Direct and stony on the palate with great fruit finish. GV (JH)

Drink: 2018 – 2025
Price: £240 per case of 12 ib Justerini & Brooks
White

Lovely dusty/stony nose, delicate fruit and a light herbal note with the merest hint of cedary oak. Deep-fruited and surprisingly rounded, though persistent, on the finish. (JH)

Drink: 2018 – 2025
Price: £595 per case of 12 ib Justerini & Brooks
White

Herbal and stony on the nose. Impressive intensity of fruit without being especially fruity – more depth and concentration than bright citrus flavours. Long. (JH)

Drink: 2018 – 2025
Price: £595 per case of 12 ib Justerini & Brooks
White

Lightly spiced and a little salty with a fine creamy overlay. Refined, almost gentle, cool, long and extremely elegant. Fresh and salty/mineral on the finish. (JH)

Drink: 2020 – 2032
Price: £2,250 per case of 12 ib Justerini & Brooks
Red

Mid cherry. Deliciously scented with red fruits. Light and supple tannins. Sample is lightly chilled, which is good for this style. Lots of fresh, scented pleasure. (JH)

Drink: 2017 – 2023
Price: £200 per case of 12 ib Justerini & Brooks

DOMAINE BALLOT-MILLOT
Very long term wines.

White

Firm, lean, sort of Ente style but with less pzazz. Needs time to unfurl. Very hard work at present. (JR)

Drink: 2019 – 2022
Price: £155 per case of 12 ib Stannary St Wine Co
White

Some richness and intensity on the nose – still very chewy on the palate. Ungenerous but may last well. (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2026
Price: £159 per case of 6 ib Stannary St Wine Co
White

Really quite rich and very sumptuous when tasted immediately after the Girardin wines. Lots of jewelly sweetness. Fun and rich. Good balance. Pure pleasure. Great balance. GV (JR)

Drink: 2019 – 2026
Imported into the UK by Thorman Hunt
White

Leaner, more minerally than the Narvaux but with real depth and richness. Lots of reward and fun. Great undertow. (JR)

Drink: 2021 – 2029
Imported into the UK by Thorman Hunt
White

Lightly nutty and interesting on the nose. Well constructed. Hint of cough pastille. Needs to relax but there is lots of substance here. (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2027
Price: £310 per case of 6 ib Stannary St Wine Co
White

Very definitely the jewel in this crown, its extra intensity surely worth the small premium. Finishes pretty chewily at present but should become increasingly majestic. (JR)

Drink: 2020 – 2028
Price: £335 per case of 6 ib Stannary St Wine Co
White

Tight and a bit introvert compared with its stablemates. All in reserve! (JR)

Drink: 2023 – 2032
Imported into the UK by Thorman Hunt
Red

Intense and smoky nose. Sweet start with lots of chew. Correct and probably worth waiting for. GV (JR)

Drink: 2024 – 2040
Imported into the UK by Thorman Hunt

DOMAINE DANIEL ET JULIEN BARRAUD

White

Simple, balanced and neutral. Fleshy texture. Fulfils the basic style remit. (RH)

Drink: 2016 – 2017
Price: £95 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

White flowers, ripe apple fruit, leesy texture. Attractive salty note to finish, and good vivid acid. (RH)

Alcohol: 13%
Drink: 2017 – 2020
Price: £120 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Rounded, fleshy palate with lovely baked apple and some cinnamon spice. No oak influence to speak of, but lovely brisk acidity on the finish. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2022
Price: £125 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Seems less expressive on the nose than their St-Véran En Crèches, although there is still a lot of flavour to enjoy here, and the finish has greater concentration of fruit, plus a charming salted note. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2018 – 2022
Price: £135 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Tropical fruit, pineapple and grapefruit aromas. Beautifully generous and plump, yet retains freshness through good acidic integration. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2020
Price: £145 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Almost sweet on the palate – this is flawlessly ripe yet retains enough savoury notes on the finish to be appetising and digestible. Leaves a lifted floral character to finish. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2025
Price: £185 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Less ripe than their Les Chataigniers, creamy texture and fresh palate. Long, savoury and saline to finish. Rich texture with a glossy, polished smoothness. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2025
Price: £185 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Juicy green apple fruit, rounded and mouth-filling. Not ostensibly better than their other, less expensive cuvées, though. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2024
Price: £220 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
White

Complete, fleshy, balanced and smooth. Finishes with the faintest spice aroma. Well made, with the typical generosity of the Mâconnais. (RH)

Alcohol: 14%
Drink: 2017 – 2024
Price: £225 per case of 12 ib Lea & Sandeman
