DeSante, The Old Vines 2018 Napa Valley

16

Full bottle 1,200 g. From head-trained heritage grape varieties dry-farmed without conventional agrichemicals of any type since the mid 1940s. The only fertilisers applied are dried sea kelp. The only fungicides are made from lavender soap, olive oil and garlic extracts. The youngest vines are 70+ years old with many of the vines exceeding 90 years of age. The varieties include Green Hungarian, Sémillon, Sauvignon Vert, Golden Chasselas, Pinot Blanc and others.
Some honeyed lime quality. Very difficult to pinpoint the ingredients in this wine, though oak seems to have played a part! Good light bottle but a bit overpriced, even if there is good persistence and good balance of those mysterious ingredients!
