Louis Sipp, Osterberg Riesling 2017 Alsace Grand Cru
The gentle, perfectly oriented slopes of the Osterberg have been highly regarded since the Middle Ages and here Etienne Sipp farms organically, with absolute attention to detail to maximise the potential of this famous site. Harvest 25 September. Fermentation with malo suppressed then aged for 11 months on fine lees. Bottled 5 July 2019. RS 4.4 g/l, TA 4.5 g/l, pH 3.2, SO2 total 126 mg/l, SO2 free 49 mg/l.
Classic, tight Riesling nose. Quite a ripe palate entry without massive acidity. Kumquat flavours – leading to orange peel. Interesting, but not inexpensive, wine. Texture on the end suggests there’s no hurry to drink this.
