Rapalino, Superiore 2018 Barbera d'Alba
15.5
Full bottle 1,272 g.
These Rapalinos are alcoholic behemoths. Smells very coconutty. Like those chocolate-coconut snowballs I used to love as a child growing up in the early '80s. Then something a bit metallic and petroleum-based, like an oil slick on a garage floor. It has moments of hedonistic charm, that chocolate dipped into intensely dark, tangy cassis-syrup sweetness. Then it teeters on freshness; a waspish stiletto of high acidity. But then, this tarmac oiliness and a bitter hardness built into the tannins. The alcohol is too high for the wine. Bit brutish. (TC)
