The annual Young Wine Writer Award is now in its 13th year, and is calling for all UK-based wine-scribe talent to enter. To qualify, applicants must be below the age of 30, not yet have had a book published nor be a regular contributor to a magazine. (There can't be many wine writers who've had a book published under the age of 30, I'd have thought!)
The prize is a cash sum of £1,000 plus an all-expenses paid two-week tour of the wine regions of Australia. In addition it has the potential to give a significant boost to an emerging writer's career – several previous winners are now well established professional wine communicators. Other winners, including the most recent four – incidentally, all female: Alexandra Harper, Barley Blyton, Anne McHale (who has additionally just become an MW) and Nicola Gutman – continue to forge successful careers in other sectors of the wine trade.
