A dead fruit logo

Dead Fruit – click to enlarge Creative publisher of South Africa's naughty wine magazine Grape Tim James has come up with this image to illustrate one of my gripes to him about the too-high incidence of overripe flavours in some South African (and Californian, and Australian, and French) reds. I plan to use it in my tasting notes to denote any wine that seems to have been made from fruit that has been allowed to go Too Far – though I must confess that the phrase 'dead fruit' is copyright Brian Croser of Petaluma. See his latest salvo at the Australian wine industry.
