When an active Professor at the University of California at Davis, Carole Meredith played a key part in the development of applying DNA profiling to vine varieties to reveal the thousands of fascinating relationships between them (that we outline in our Wine Grapes tome). With John Bowers, it was she who in 1997 discovered the parentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (Cabernet Franc x Sauvignon Blanc) and lit the fuse for grape geneticists everywhere.
