Update 15 Oct 2014 Instead of a Throwback Thursday we are republishing this article that was originally published on 23 Sep with the names of the lucky five winners of pairs of tickets to Bibendum Fine Wine's tasting of 2012 and other vintages of Bordeaux on 22 Oct. Juel Mahoney reports:
I have drawn five names emails out of a hat. And the winners of the five pairs of tickets are:
Andrew and Judith McKinna
Alex Mitchell
Jeremy Woolf
Dimitar Nikolov
Jackie Ang

They were a very nice bunch of people judging from their responses. It was nice to see so much excitement about the event

See last Friday's wine of the week (a 2010 red bordeaux) for news of Bibendum Fine Wine.

Update 3 Oct 2014 The event is now sold out! There is a waiting list, so if you want to go on it, send an email to the address below. But the five pairs of free tickets are still up for grabs so don't forget to enter the competition.

Every year Bibendum holds a big annual Bordeaux tasting which has in the past been much enjoyed by our members. This year, not for the first time, they've extended a special offer just for Purple Pagers. Juel Mahoney sent us the following details:

23 Sep 2014 Purple Pagers have the opportunity to win five pairs of tickets (full price £80 for two) to the Bordeaux Tasting held by Bibendum Fine Wine and the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux on 22 October at OXO2 on the Southbank.

Over 100 châteaux will be represented, each representative bringing the 2012 and an older vintage for you to compare and contrast (including 2010, 2009, 2005 and 2000 among others). Taste and speak to the producers while you enjoy breathtaking views over London.

To stand a chance of winning one of the pairs of tickets, all you have to do is answer this one question by searching the new website:

Which two 2012 white bordeaux does Jancis score most highly?

Send your answers to Juel Mahoney at [email protected] before 10 October. She will then put all the correct answers in a hat and from it draw the names of the five winners, each of which will win a pair of tickets for the event. Winners will be announced here on 15 October.

In addition, Bibendum Fine Wine is offering Purple Pagers a special reduced ticket price of £35 (usually £40) per person. Call 020 7449 4120 or email [email protected] and quote 'Purple Pages Offer' for the discounted rate. For more about the event, see here.
