Mopping up Rhône 2017 – northern reds

To continue our mini-series on Rhône 2017s, a collection of famous names from the north. See also my recent tasting article on 2017 northern Rhône whites as well as our Rhône 2017 guide.

Following the excellent 2016 vintage, northern Rhône reds shone again in 2017, as this collection of tasting notes illustrates. For the most part, there are no surprises in store, with the best-known names delivering the top-scoring wines, generally speaking. However, it is worth mentioning that the best examples from the supposedly lesser appellations of St-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage can easily compete with Côte Rôtie in terms of quality.
