Today is the official release day of this year’s Penfolds Collection, so head winemaker Peter Gago has been circling the globe presenting the wines therein to the likes of me. My session was towards the end of five weeks he had spent in Europe and he was able to begin a Parisian-inflected sentence, ‘At the Meurice the other day…’ before adding that it ‘wasn’t a patch on the Crillon’. His bosses are clearly investing heavily in their launches.
He was flying back to Australia for a few days...
