Phylloxera found in the Yarra Valley
 
News comes from the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria that the devastating phylloxera louse has been found, for the first time since vines were first planted in the region in 1838. Many other Victorian wine regions were decimated by phylloxera in the late 19th century and is still present in such wine regions as the King Valley, Nagambie and Rutherglen but South Australia to its immediate west has remained phylloxera-free.
 
The infestation is so far limited to an isolated section of a 32-hectare vineyard...
