Portugal's most famous table wine sees the light of day, at 10 years old.
Barca Velha is such an iconic name in the history of Douro table wines that it is mentioned in three separate entries (eg Ferreira) in The Oxford Companion to Wine, a book not generally given to mentioning specific wines or producers.
Casa Ferreirinha, the home of Barca Velha, may now be owned by Portugal's biggest producer Sogrape, which has estates in Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand and became the major shareholder in successful UK importer Liberty Wines in 2019, but this...
