On the evening of Monday 6 May I’ll be presenting a range of sumptuous burgundies at Bonhams in New York at a sit-down tasting in aid of the Gérard Basset Foundation, founded in memory of the late and much-missed super-sommelier Gérard Basset OBE, MS, MW, MBA, OIV MSc, pictured above by Mirentxu Bellet.

As a trustee of this charitable foundation dedicated to enriching the wine, spirits and hospitality industries through education, I’m proud to be associated with its first-ever event in the US, in this case co-hosted by Amayès Aouli, Bonhams' newly appointed global head of wine and spirits.
The Gérard Basset Foundation believes in a future where a career in wine, spirits and hospitality is open to all, no matter their background or circumstances. Unusually, it operates truly internationally, funding programmes that support a diverse range of communities all over the world. Gérard’s son Romané Basset, co-founding trustee of the Foundation who will also be in New York on 6 May, comments, ‘Since our founding in 2021, we have already pledged £1.8 million to support 1,200 beneficiaries globally. We are honoured to be organising our very first event in the United States as we continue to raise awareness of the scholars and grantees we fund around the world.’
World-renowned somm Pascaline Lepeltier, Meilleur Sommelier de France 2018, MOF, like me a huge fan and friend of Gérard’s, will be our head sommelier at the tasting, organised by Amayès Aouli and Marie Keep, head of wine and spirits, Americas at Bonhams.
