25 June 2024 Our annual wine writing competition exceeds all expectations this year!
With the deadline to submit to our 2024 wine writing competition (WWC24) passed, we have received an incredible 211 entries! This sets a new record for submissions, previously held by our 2021 competition. We are absolutely thrilled that so many people have shared their memories of a wine moment they'll never forget. Talented entrants from Singapore to Scotland and New York to New Zealand have submitted pieces that are by turns hilarious, bittersweet, heartbreaking and uplifting.
There are entries about moments where people first caught the wine bug or where they finally tasted a legendary, sought-after wine. Others have written about memorable visits to wineries and regions or moments of opening a winery of their own. There are moments of heartbreak and loss and moments of friendship and love.
Judges from JancisRobinson.com and the Académie du Vin Library, our partners in the competition, are busy reading the anonymised entries. We will begin publishing our favourites next month, which will be free for all readers. Entrants should keep an eye on the website to find out if their submission will be among those published. Then in early September, you – the readers – can vote on your favourites from our shortlist. There are so many great pieces that I expect it will be a challenge to pick a single favourite. The lucky winners of the judges' and readers' prizes will be announced mid September and will receive some of the beautiful wine glasses designed by Jancis and Richard Brendon and a selection of 20 books from the Académie du Vin Library's superb portfolio. Runners-up will also receive books and all winners and runners-up will receive a year-long membership of JancisRobinson.com (for themselves or to give as a gift).
