These are the current releases from Umbria's top producer, posted here as background to my news story One Umbrian bows to another.
Marco Caprai on his recent vintages: '2001 is the best of 1999-2001 and 1999 is the least. 1998 is better than 1997 because it is very regular.'
Montefalco Rosso 1998 16.5 Drink now
Relatively light and taut, this is an everyday blend of Sangiovese, lesser Sagrantino and 15 per cent Merlot (which has been allowed in the DOC regulations since 1975).
