Following in the footsteps of Richard's canter through 20 years of fine wine writing to mark our forthcoming 20th anniversary on 1 November, Nick falls into line.

This article is being written voluntarily, albeit through slightly gritted teeth.

It comes in response to Andrew McKinna’s request in our 20th anniversary competition that, to coincide with this website’s 20th anniversary, he would welcome an explanation of my ‘special moments’ in 20 restaurants since 2000. To which Richard Hemming, our long-time contributor, quickly responded ‘Nick doesn’t like list-type articles but I would love to see something like this’.
