Calling all would-be purple pagers

• 1 min read

Feb 11, 5pm – You can now sign up for membership of purple pages using PayPal. Just click here to gain immediate access to 20,000 tasting notes, the world's only online Oxford Companion to Wine and the planet's most courteous wine forum.

Many, many apologies to the many of you who have kindly tried to subscribe to my purple pages since early Saturday.

The payment provider WorldPay which processes our payments underwent a major upgrade in the early hours of Saturday morning and since that time seems to have lost contact with our subscription process (accessed by clicking on ‘join now’ next to the login box).

The result has been a very frustrating series of attempted transactions by many of you, some of whom have tried on several occasions to make a payment. For each attempted transaction you have been given an agreement ID number but no money has so far been taken.

We have launched a suitable rocket and are currently trying to re-connect our systems in cyberspace but please don’t worry. Once we are reconnected we will ensure that only one payment is taken, if necessary by refunding all others. We do apologise for this temporary but major inconvenience applied by circumstances beyond our control and hope to be back to normal later today. By the time I finish writing this with any luck…

We will let you know once the subscription process is working normally again. Should any of you desperately need access to our purple pages – for a forthcoming exam for example – please contact [email protected] and Rachel Shaughnessy will do her best to help you.
