Château Latour 1959-2000

These notes were taken at a fascinating vertical of bottles brought directly from the château's own (recently remodelled) cellars by manager Frédéric Engerer to The Great Wine Seminar in Miami in March 2003.

He decided to serve them in groups of similar vintages which went like this:

  • Dampish – 1997, 1991, 1973
  • Needing a little more light (to ripen the fruit) at the end of the growing season – 1998, 1994, 1988
  • Warm vintages, uncomplicated wines – 1999, 1985, 1971
  • Very hot summers in which Cabernets sometimes got too ripe – 1995, 1989
  • Tough vintages – 1986, 1975
  • Fresh wines...
