Jancis spent the early days of February escaping the biting cold in Britain and immersing herself in the extraordinary metamorphosis of the Chilean wine scene. Chilean vine growers have long been aware of the country’s wide range of climates, but Chile is also getting in touch with its very varied soils in no uncertain way currently, as this photo, taken at Viña Leyda, of one of many soil pits dug recently in Chile’s burgeoning vineyards shows.
