Four new ACs and a Spanish grape for France

French committees have been busy lately. Here's news of appellation changes in view, as reported in Vitisphère.

On 9 June, INAO approved a new appellation for the still, dry red table wines of Rasteau, which previously had to be labelled Côtes du Rhône-Villages Rasteau. This means that the Rasteau appellation now includes both the sweet vin doux naturel version of Rasteau (red, pink or white) and the dry red table wines. It applies retroactively from the 2009 vintage.

Other appellation changes agreed at the same:

  • The Côteaux du Tricastin appellation is renamed  Grignan-les-Adhémar apparently because of negative assocations...
