German wine tasting in London on Jan 15

Tuesday 19 December 2006 • 1 min read

Specialist German wine importer Iris Ellmann of The Wine Barn is opening her comprehensive annual tasting to the public on the evening of Monday January 15 at the residence of the very wine-friendly German ambassador in Belgrave Square, London. All of their 12 winemakers will fly over from Germany to present their “outstanding” 2005 vintage:

Bassermann-Jordan (Pfalz)
Friedrich Becker (Pfalz)
Bercher (Baden)
Göttelmann (Nahe)
Dr Heger (Baden)
Franz Keller (Baden)
August Kesseler (Rheingau)
Meyer-Näkel (Ahr)
Sekthaus Solter (Rheingau)
St Urbanshof (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer)
Wirsching (Franken)
Wittmann (Rheinhessen)

This is an impressive array of producers. Alas for wine professionals there is also the big generic New Zealand tasting that day and Louis Jadot's presentation of their 2005s, but there should be some very good wine on show here too.

This is the first time this tasting will take place at Ambassador Wolfgang Ischinger’s residence and, we are told, “the Ambassador will be honouring us with his presence at the event. At about 6.30pm he will address our guests with a welcome speech. Security here will be extremely tight and all names have to be registered before the event.” (Ferrero Rocher, anyone?)
